About Zinc Elderberry Umckaloabo
Elderberry is one of the most effective herbs to use for flu. Studies report the
herb shortens the duration of flu symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, headache,
sore throat, cough and body aches. Elderberry has proven to be effective against
numerous strains of influenza. The herbs constituents neutralize the activity of the
hemagglutinin spikes found on the surface of several viruses, causing the viruses
to deactivate so they are unable to infect cells. Elderberry can be used during an
active flu (optimally combined with Oregano Oil or Echinacea Goldenseal), or used
as a preventative to avoid getting sick during the flu season.
Elderberry liquid extract is a very concentrated source of anthocyanins, purple
pigments that serve as powerful antioxidants. These anthocyanins enhance immune
function and protect the body against disease by boosting the production of cytokines
(proteins that regulate immune response), including tumor necrosis factor-alpha and
interleukins. Elderberry also contains the flavonoids quercetin and rutin, and is high
in vitamins A and C. The extract can be taken on a long-term basis to increase one's
resistance to illness and help rebuild a strong immune response.
Elderberry offers cardiovascular protection by reducing oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
Oxidation of LDL cholesterol is a contributing factor of cardiovascular disease,
especially heart attacks and strokes. It also reduces atherosclerosis (hardening of
the arteries) by preventing platelets from forming to blood vessel walls. Furthermore,
Elderberry can benefit those with elevated lipid levels by reducing total cholesterol
and triglycerides.
Elderberry can help those with poor night vision by regenerating rhodopsin.
Rhodopsin is a pigment of the retina that is responsible for both the formation of the
photoreceptor cells and the perception of light, and enables the eyes to adjust to
darkness. Elderberry anthocyanins also protect against retinopathy (an accumulation
of blood in the retina) by reducing the permeability of thin vessel walls.
Surprisingly, Elderberry also seems to reduce stress. A study conducted by
endocrinologist Sepp Porta showed that supplementation with Elderberry extract
reduced overall stress levels and significantly shortened recovery time from physical
exertion. Dr. Porta has now teamed up with cadets from the U.S. Air Force to further
investigate and validate Elderberry's stress-reducing effects.
